Born in Tokyo, Japan, Mieko Takahashi moved to the US in 1992 to pursue a career in accounting. For ten years working as a CPA, Mieko made jewelry as a hobby. In 2006, she began creating jewelry full time, launching Shizen Designs. Mieko hand-crafts her jewelry from her home in Bellingham, Washington, assisted by her husband David, her two cats Koko and Kiku and her dog Kumo.
The word “Shizen” means nature in Japanese and the pieces are designed to reflect the beauty of nature as well as the beauty of the women wearing them. Inspirations for designs come from nature including subjects like flowers, butterflies and leaves. Themes of the Shizen Design Jewelry range from whimsical designs with paw prints and tiny dog bones to graceful shining stars with sparkling cubic zirconia. Mieko creates timeless, classic and elegant jewelry that will look beautiful on every woman.
